What We Do

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Family Support Trust (SCIO), exists to provide financial and other support services to serving and retired Fire Service personnel and their families, who may require assistance in times of need.

Our Services

  • We make grants and assist those within the Fire Service “family”, facing health, personal and financial difficulties. We provide Bereavement, Hardship and Christmas grants and our Children’s Investment Trust helps young people who have suffered parental loss.
  • We provide support and activities for over 250 Registered Beneficiaries (Widows) who have lost their partner/spouse.
  • We provide a Spanish respite facility for rest and recuperation, following bereavement, periods of illness, stress, or to assist with longer term health conditions.
  • We aim to ensure that support to our Beneficiaries is delivered in a confidential, timely and sensitive manner.
  • We strive to ensure best use of charitable resources: between 80% and 100% of our annual regular giving income, received from Service employees, is paid out in grants, to assist those in greatest need.
  • Now open to all in the SFRS personnel - Wholetime, Retained, Volunteer and Support staff are eligible to apply for FST’s assistance. Our Charity is currently undertaking the first phase roll out its services across the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
